The Cultural Arts Center (CAC) at Raceland-Worthington High School, Raceland, Kentucky
9:00 am – Panel – Farming and Gardening in Eastern Kentucky. Local master gardeners and growers will discuss gardening and farming techniques in our area. After a short round table discussion, they will answer questions from the crowd.
10:00 am - Speaker - Don Tillack: "Year Round Gardening." Don Tillack will discuss year-round gardening. Mr. Tillack will discuss techniques and types of gardens that can be grown year round in you own backyard.
11:00 pm - Jann Knappage: "Community Farm Alliance - Supporting our Kentucky Farmers" - Jann Knappage is the the Farm to Table Coordinator for the Community Farm Alliance. She will be talking about how the CFA helps connect the dots in the local food system between restaurants, institutions, and direct consumers to producers and processors.
Noon - Film - Saving Seeds. A Southern Foodways Alliance documentary about heirloom farmer Bill Best. Mr. Best is a bean and tomato farmer in Berea, Kentucky and was a finalist for the Golden Snail Award from Slow Food. Mr. Best won the 2003 Ruth Fertel Keeper of the Flame Award. Best is the author of Saving Seeds, Preserving Taste: Heirloom Seed Savers in Appalachia an Ohio University Press book that came out in 2013.
